Holy Saturday Paschal Vigil 2010

Saturday, April 3, 2010. The vigil liturgy of Pascha is celebrated in a combination of Vespers and St. Basil's Divine Liturgy on Holy Saturday. Similar in origins to other ancient Christian Paschal vigils like the Roman Easter Vigil, it celebrates the conquering of death and shatters of the gates of hades. The first witnesses to Christ life-giving death were all those who had died until He came to free them. The liturgy recounts the whole of salvation history with seventeen scriptural readings. It is also a traditional day for baptism. This year we had the joy of bringing the McEvilly family into communion with Christ and His Holy Church.
